One of the greatest feelings a parent can have is to see his or her child’s glowing smile. Unhealthy teeth, of course, lead to a less radiant smile and can cause problems in the developing of adult teeth. But as most parents know, getting your little one into consistent, healthy dental habits can be challenging. If you are experiencing a struggle getting your kid to follow a routine, try these five healthy tips to make brushing fun for your child.
1. Choose a fun toothbrush
A toothbrush with his or her favorite character or color will get build excitement around brushing. Make the buying experience fun, too! Let them pick it out themselves as if they were choosing a new toy.
2. Pick out tasty toothpaste
It is extremely important that your child brushes for at least two minutes. But if he or she doesn’t like the taste, it’s likely that brushing will stop within a few seconds. Choose a color and flavor that your child will get excited about.
3. Use a timer
Your child will feel in control but will get the two minutes of brushing they need. Find one with a cool theme that makes fun sounds at the end. Anything that makes the brushing process less like a chore and more like playtime will get kids pumped about clean teeth.
4. Use flossers
Normal floss can be a tedious and overwhelming experience for small hands. Like toothbrushes, flossers come in different characters and fun colors.
5. Positive reinforcement
A fun tooth brushing chart or small awards will keep your child motivated to preserving a beautiful smile before and after the baby teeth are gone.
